The Lady's Slipper Orchid has a slipper shaped pouch that traps insects in order to have the bug pollinate the plant. Orchids are the most misunderstood flower on the earth. There are over 25,000 species that live from the Amazon Jungle to mountain ranges as high as 15,000 feet. The desert is no stranger for an orchid habitat either as a few species have been found growing on cacti. The colors are vivid with a wide range shapes and styles. Orchids may grow in a more terrestrial manner or on other trees and plants, but not as a parasitic flower feeding off its host. This being the case, depending on variety of the flowering plant, different care must be taken for the plant.
