Ridgepole pine trees were used for various thongs by Native Americans. One of which was to build lodges and tepees. The ridgepole pine stumps depicted in this image died in an area branded by scientists as the “Tree Kill Zone” inside Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The ground is warmer than the surrounding land and it kills the roots. The phenomenon created a land mass about 8 acres or the size of about 4 soccer fields according to the experts.
