"Pillars of Creation" is a photograph taken by the Hubble Telescope of interstellar gas and dust from a cluster of young, massive stars in a small region in the Eagle Nebula, or M16, some 7,000 light years from Earth. This NASA image from 2015, taken in near-infrared light, transforms the pillars into eerie, wispy silhouettes, which are seen against a background of myriad stars.
