Communist style architecture is common in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan even though the country has been independent of the Soviet Union since 1991. Formerly called Frunze, Bishkek has many notable buildings influenced by brutalist architecture. The Bishkek Circus was constructed in 1976 and is still in use today.
