Vase with Three Sunflowers 1888 Van Gogh spiral Notebook Affiliate icon

The stunning golden yellow sunflowers on the light blue backdrop are the focal point of this classy spiral-bound notepad, featuring Van Gogh's "Vase with Three Sunflowers" (1888). At the Yellow House in Arles, Van Gogh made four still lifes with sunflowers in August 1888. Of the latter two, the two most well-known are the 14 blooms on a blue backdrop (now in Munich) and the 15 blooms on a yellow background (in London). Theo received a brief description of the image from Vincent: "3 huge flowers in a green vase, light background." The flower on the left is a stunning illustration of the sheer grandeur of the blossoms; it is as big as the pot. Instead of the typically gloomy backdrops that accompanied his early still life paintings from Paris, he painted the flowers against a vivid blue background. Van Gogh's use of color became more overt at Arles. For his profound love of the natural world and flowers, Van Gogh was well-known. Van Gogh was also showing signs of a growing interest in patterns and Japanese art.
