Sultan Yacoub El Mansour of the Almohades dynasty was planning to build the largest mosque in the Muslim world, after Samara in Iraq. Much of this gigantic work is unknown, starting with its name, whose origin is unknown: the name of the place, the name of a tribe or the name of the master. For some 18th century historians, notably Spaniards, the architect is said to be a Jabir ibn Aflah, who was latinized in the 17th century as Guever, Sevillan who died in 1977 and who designed the Giralda of Seville, the Koutoubia of Marrakech and the minaret of the Hassan mosque of Rabbi at. This assumption has never been confirmed. For the vast majority of historians2, the architect Ahmad Ben Baso, the designer of the Koutoubia mosque and the Giralda of Seville, under the same model, is also the architect of the Hassan Tower. A more logical third hypothesis is the cooperation of several architects, the most prominent of whom are Ahmad Ben Baso and Jabir Ibn Aflah. The only historical certainty is the start date of the work, 1196, and the name of the sponsor.
