In Yakut folklore Chyskhaan, the Lord of the Cold, is the personification of winter. Each year, in later September/early October, he comes down from the Arctic Ocean to the region of Yakutia ( aka Sakha Republic), bringing the cold with him step by step. He wears a headpiece with two horns, one from a bull and one from a wooly mammoth. The first horn falls off in the end of January, the second in February. He is slowly melting, but before he melts completely, he flows back to the Arctic on the Lena River. He repeats this cycle every year, and is accompanied by Kharchaana, the Snow Maiden. The border was inspired by a traditional Yakut design symbolizing the sky and the stars, but I replaced the stars with snowflakes.
