The beloved Marionberry - a complex, sweet, juicy cultivar of blackberry developed by Oregon State University and the USDA's Agricultural Research Center in 1956 - is featured on this label. It is grown in the state of Oregon and has native blackberry, loganberry and raspberry as well as dewberry, Himalayan blackberry and European red raspberry in its background. Sometimes referred to as the "Cabernet of Blackberries" because of its earthy, mildly sweet taste. Because the many large spines on its thorny vines make marionberries more difficult to process commercially, a jar of this delicious jam is a real treasure.
