This image of the LEDA 2046648 spiral galaxy and thousands of other galaxies comes from the James Webb Space Telescope and was taken during the calibration of the instruments. These are ancient galaxies with their light stretched into the infrared wavelengths because of the continuous expansion of space. The small part of the sky where this came from is located in the constellation Hercules. Everything except the dots (stars) with diffraction spikes are all distant galaxies.
