Fiery Protostar Hourglass NIRCam JWST Mouse Pad Affiliate icon

In the neck portion of this hourglass shaped dust and gas phenomenon is the beginnings of a protostar (new star). It's visible with the NIRCam installed on the James Webb Space Telescope looking into the infrared wavelengths. This protostar is a puffy quantity of gas that draws in more material, compress, become increasingly hot and will begin nuclear fusion. The blue areas are thin dust clouds, orange is thicker dust clouds and the dark line in the middle of the hourglass shape is as big as our own solar system!
