"Afternoon at Douglas Castle" is the name of the painting depicting the seat of the powerful Douglas clan in former glory. The tartan surrounding it is in lovely blue shades and is the most popular of the several associated with the once-powerful noble family. The ancient Lowland clan was one of the most powerful in Scotland, and its chiefs were often very political -- sometimes as friends of the country's rulers, including Robert the Bruce, or losing lands and titles in times of distance from the rulers, such as for participating in the death of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots. This is a case of "Gone but not forgotten" as a painting allows bearers of the noble Douglas blood and DNA to can own your own version of the family home, or clan seat, no matter how far your own ancestors have roamed. There are four main branches of the ancient clan. Douglas castle was located near the town of Douglas in Lanarkshire.
