When the Scott Clan and the Douglas Clan both date to the 12th century and have both owned one of Scotland's finest homes, the history is certain to be complicated. The castle is owned by the Scott Clan's chief, the 10th Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, Richard Scott, who uses Drumlanrig Castle as one of his three primary residences. Known as "The Pink Palace", Drumlanrig Castle is situated on historic Douglas land.
