Saint Bride, c. 1913 by John Duncan (1866-1945). This depiction of the Irish legend shows two angels carrying Saint Bride, or Saint Brigid, across the sea from Ireland to Bethlehem to attend Christ's nativity. Duncan was a Scottish painter who focused on Celtic folklore and legends about King Arthur. Pre-Raphaelite paintings and art often had a medieval theme, focusing on topics of chivalry and romanticism.
