Sebiti, which means Seven in Akkadian, corresponds to the Open Star Cluster of Pleiades, (also known as the Seven Sisters). The Sebiti were represented with Seven Circles on numerous ancient Assyrian bas-reliefs and cylinder seals. The Sebiti were also associated with the home of the Seven Sages known as the Abgalu (or Abkalu, Apkalu), who descended from the heavens and brought knowledge and wisdom to earth and taught it to mankind. The top line Cuneiform text (written left to right) is the word Sebiti. Eventually Sebiti (or the number Seven) became a sacred number, and left its mark on ancient religions, where we see: Seven levels of heaven and hell. The Akkadians called Saturday as “Shabatu”, and honored the days of multiples of seven, (i.e. the 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th day of a month were considered as holy days). Later the Hebrews adopted this concept and called it Shabat (or Sabbath) and applied it to the 7th day of each week, (irrespective of being a day of a multiple of seven or not).
