This is a reproduction of “Cherubim” of 1512 by RaphaelSanzio da Urbino. These charming figures are at the base of the iconic Sistine Madonna which was commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1512. There is a legend that relates the children of his model for the Madonna would come to watch the painting process. Raphael was so struck by their interested poses and postures that he added them. There is an alternate story that the artist was inspired by children gazing into a bakery shop. This masterpiece is an oil on canvas and is in the Gemaldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden, Germany.
