Asperger’s Syndrome was once referred to as High-Functioning Autism. It can quite often go undiagnosed for decades with the person struggling to find a reason for their puzzle of not quite fitting into the circle of their peers. Asperger’s Syndrome does not mean the affected person's intellect is below average - in fact one of the reasons that the majority of Asperger’s sufferers go undiagnosed is because their academic ability or intelligence quotient (IQ) is usually average or higher. Some of the symptoms of Asperger’s Syndrome are: oversensitivity to noise, touch, or the feel of clothes; difficulty in adjusting to changes in routine; communication problems; motor skill problems; being slow to begin talking; eye contact avoidance; flapping hands; social awkwardness; having few friends; impulsive physical or verbal behaviour; a tendency to be easily distracted; being obsessively focused on a single subject or interest; slimming behaviour; anger, aggression, hitting others; odd or very proper speech, sometimes stemming from an overemphasis on strict logic; appearing lost in one's own world.
