Beautiful view of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, which shows a small region of space in the constellation Fornax. This compilation was put together with photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope from September 2003 through January 2004. Makes a great birthday, Christmas, or other holiday gift for those interested in astronomy and its galaxies (this image shows almost 10,000!). The very small red galaxies are very old and distant, existing when the universe was just 800 million years old, soon after the Big Bang. These represent the furthest away galaxies that can be observed in visible light. The larger, more well-defined galaxies are from about 1 billion years ago, when the universe was 13 billion years old. Credit: NASA/ESA/Hubble
