This pair of red-shouldered hawks sits perched on a tree branch with some Spanish moss. These birds of prey may have been the most common species of hawk or falcon in North America in the 1900's. Now, although they are not considered endangered or threatened, their are much fewer of these raptors due to a loss of habitat. Here in Florida, they are still the most common hawk seen though. This is Plate 56 of John James Audubon's Birds of America series.
