A Stroop Effect image is a psychological test image, usually consisting of a list of color words printed in different colors. For example, the word "red" may be written in blue ink. The task of the viewer is to name the color of the word, not the word itself. The Stroop effect occurs when the viewer's reaction time is slowed, when the word has a different color from the one it describes. In the example above, the viewer would take longer to say "blue" if the word "red" is printed in blue ink than if the word "red" is written in red ink. This is because the brain normally reads the word automatically and does not recognize the color, leading to a cognitive conflict. Stroop effect images are often used in psychology to study cognitive processes such as attention, selectivity, and automated thinking. They can also be used in neuropsychology to identify cognitive deficits in neurological disorders.
