This awesome astronomy photograph shows the Eagle Nebula, also known as (Messier 16, or NGC 6611). The 'pillars of creation' are visible in the centre, and the nebula has a beautiful pink and red appearance, with bright stars against the dark background. The image comes from the Wide Field Imager camera on the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at the La Silla Observatory, Chile.
