A vintage illustration from a children's book depicting an elf and fairy sharing a kiss while leaning over a toadstool. Young love! The artist is Richard Doyle (1824-1883) who was born in London. He was a notable illustrator of the Victorian era who learned art from his father, Irish cartoonist John Doyle. Doyle had three brothers who were also artists. He was the uncle of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
