The shoreline of the Oregon coast has many amazing lighthouses. This painting of Cape Blanco is from my earlier pieces in the Lighthouses of America series. I believe that these beautiful and unusual structures deserve immortalization trough the arts. But a lighthouse scene is not complete without the endless ocean and its powerful waves. To balance both the ocean and the lighthouse, I often limit the surrounding areas of the structure to an essential rock-formation. Sacrificing some of the accuracy of the landscape for a good composition can be justifiable in creating a successful seascape.
