The Seasons by Giuseppe Arcimboldo is a set of four oil paintings on canvas from 1563, 1572, and 1573. This Mannerist (Late Renaissance) allegorical painting series was offered to Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor in 1569, and includes profile portraits made up of fruit, vegetables, and plants related to each season. Accompanying the set was a poem by Giovanni Battista Fonteo (1546-1580) explaining their allegorical meaning. This masterpiece is now currently housed in the Louvre, Paris, France.
