The Birth of Venus-A work of art by the Florentine painter Sandro Botticelli. Painted between 1484-1486,it depicts the goddess of love Venus,after emerging from the sea as an adult woman, Venus stands on a seashell, being blown to shore by Zephyr, god of the west wind.Horae, goddesses of the seasons,stands ready with a cape to clothe the newborn deity. Zephyr carries either an Aura (nymphs of the wind) or Chloris, a nymph associated with spring and blossoming flowers like those seen throughout the picture.
