The Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is a small, vibrant bird known for its iridescent emerald or golden-green feathers and a striking ruby-red throat in males. Native to North America, it migrates seasonally between Canada, the eastern United States, and Central America. This agile flyer hovers in mid-air to feed on nectar from flowers, aided by rapid wing beats. It's also known for catching small insects and spiders to supplement its diet. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are solitary, territorial birds, especially around feeding areas, and they play a crucial role in pollination.
