A vintage photograph of Sunday River Bridge spanning Sunday River near Newry, Maine. Sunday River Bridge is a very well executed speciment of the bridge truss designed in the 1840s by Peter Paddleford of Littleton, New Hampshire. This truss became the dominant style in covered bridge construction throughout much of New England, but has received little attention from historians, perhaps because it was never patented. The bridge is also notable as an example of sympathetic restoration.
