A frisky red fox (vulpes vulgaris) is featured in this beautiful antiquarian book design. The background is from an antique tree calf-leather pattern book binding from 1878 -- a technique developed in the 1770s that drips an acidic compound to create a natural looking tree bark/branch pattern. This design is sure to please those who love dogs, the wild ancestors of the domestic dogs, and vintage animal illustrations. Red fox chromo-lithograph color plate adapted from G.H. von Schubert's "Natural History of the Animal Kingdom," Germany, 1885 for the British book of the same title by William Forsell Kirby.
